Program Assistant – Canada Summer Jobs

MAIN DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant
SALARY: $14.00 -16.00 / hr. based on experience + 4% vacation pay
POSITION STATUS: Seasonal- Canada Summer Jobs
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hrs. / week (Monday-Friday) for 8 weeks

By fostering a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, you will provide direct services to adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities in a day program setting. You will support each individual to reach their goals while they participating in meaningful activities in their community.

While adhering to all Harmony Place Support Services policies and procedures as a Program Facilitator you will:

  • Support with the facilitation of programs specific to leisure recreation, social education, life skills enhancement, and health and wellness.
  • Coordinate and attend community outings throughout the GTA that match programming needs,
  • Assist with tasks of daily living and provide personal care (as required),
  • Maintain accurate and relevant records related to people in programming,
  • Support Program Facilitators with the maintenance of a caseload of approximately 10 individuals and support each individual with the completion of their Individual Support Plan (ISP) and reviews,
  • Guide people in programming to meet their ISP goals and objectives and monitor achievements,
  • Establish a supportive, ongoing relationship with people in programming and their support systems,
  • Administer First Aid and CPR, as necessary,
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance of program area as necessary, reporting any hazards to the Health and safety Representative or supervisor,
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Between 15-30 years of age on the first date of employment
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Previous experience considered an asset,
  • Self-motivated and mature individual,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication,
  • Proven ability to understand the need of individuals with development/physical disabilities,
  • Individuals must be able to carry out the physical demands of this position, including the ability to lift up to 40lbs, and to perform lifts and transfers,
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional communication with families, employees, other agency employees, and the public,
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check or willingness to obtain
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR, and Safe Management or equivalent considered an asset,
  • Valid G License, personal vehicle and appropriate insurance considered an asset,
  • Ability to swim considered an asset
